Rhinoplasty is also known as nose corrective surgery, usually done for tilted or pinched nose. While the shape of your nose is usually the result of heredity, the appearance may have been altered in an injury or during prior surgery. Surgery of the nose improves the appearance and proportion of your nose, enhancing facial harmony and self confidence.
Surgery of the nose may also correct impaired breathing caused by structural abnormalities in the nose.
The shape and size of your nose is genetic. Your nose is generally fully developed by the age of 16. Rhinoplasty may be performed if you are unhappy with the natural shape and size of your nose. It may also be done to restore the shape of your nose after an injury.
It is very important that you are clear in your mind what it is that you dislike about the appearance of your nose and that you are able to explain this to your surgeon. He or she will then be able to tell you what is possible with rhinoplasty surgery and what is not. Most people who have rhinoplasty report that they are happy with the results of their operation.

ANSWERS
- It all depends on the surgeon, patient and the technique used. Normally it will take around 2.5 to 3 hrs.
- The surgeon may send you to home very next day.
- 13 years onwards.
- Noticeable bruising, swelling and discoloration of the eyes, nose and cheeks must be expected for a few days following this procedure. Bruising and discoloration usually disappear within the first week after surgery and can be helped along by sleeping with you head raised instead of flat. If any discoloration persists for a longer period it can easily be camouflaged by the application of make-up. General swelling usually disappears a couple of weeks after surgery but swelling in the tip area can be experienced up to nine months following surgery. It must be stated however that these are generalizations and that the rate of recovery will obviously differ from patient to patient.
- As in the case with all surgery it would be advisable for you to take it easy after a Rhinoplasty procedure. In fact to avoid making your nose vulnerable in any way to accidental knocks or bumps, during the early stages of your recuperation, movement should be kept to a minimum.
The longer you can prevent your nose from being exposed to direct sunlight the better. When you do eventually expose it be sure to wear good sun protection of some sort.
Generally speaking you should be able to resume your normal lifestyle, including resumption of work (provided the work isn’t of a strenuous nature) a week to ten days following surgery. Other activities including exercise routines can generally be resumed after three weeks. But always be aware of the procedure you have undergone and as a result be careful not to expose your nose to any potential abuse.
The internal healing process associated with Rhinoplasty is generally not short. In fact it may well be that you will only fully appreciate the outcome of your surgery a year after the event.
6. As with everything else in life there are also risks involved in surgical procedures. No matter how good the Surgeon performing the Surgery may be, complications can arise. Therefore before proceeding with any surgery of any kind please discuss all your concerns with your surgeon and ask as many questions as you like so that you are in a position to make an informed decision.
