KA is a relatively common, rapidly growing skin lesion that usually develops on sun-exposed skin. It arises from skin cells that surround the hair follicle.
Early diagnosis is needed to differentiate a keratoacanthoma from a skin cancer called squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) as, unlike an SCC, a keratoacanthoma is benign.
Center of the face, the ears, forearms, scalp, lower legs (seen more commonly in woman), and the back of the hands are the most commonly affected areas.
Generally seen in the individuals over the age of 50, fairer skin, over sun exposure, history of previous cancer, exposure to radiation & chemicals, Human papilloma virus infestation.
- Cryotherapy
- Curettage and Cautery
- Excision
- Radiotherapy are the various treatment options for treating keratoacanthoma.
