| ACNE OR PIMPLES |
|
|
| Ques.1 |
Why I have got this problem and what causes
it? |
| Ans. 1 |
Acne or pimples happens when oil (sebaceous glands)
glands come to life around puberty stimulated by male
hormones from the adrenal glands of both boys and girls.
Oil is a natural substance which lubricates and protects
the skin, and under certain circumstances, cells that
are close to the surface block the openings of sebaceous
glands and cause a buildup of oil underneath. This oil
stimulates bacteria, (which live in everyone’s skin
and generally cause no problems), to multiply and causes
surrounding tissues to become inflamed.
If the inflammation is right near the surface, you get
a pustule; if it’s deeper, a papule; deeper still
and it’s a cyst. If the oil breaks though to the
surface, the result is a ‘white head’. If
the oil becomes oxidized (that is, acted on by oxygen
in the air), the oil changes from white to black, and
the result is a ‘blackhead’. |

|
| Ques. 2 |
Is this problem recurring again after the treatment? |
| Ans. 2 |
Yes, of course, the common tendency of acne is between
the ages of 14-25. Some times it worsens much so that
treatment is necessary; to avoid pigmentation and scars,
if it worsens again you have to take treatment. |
| |
|
| Ques. 3 |
Is this problem related to food? Dirt? Cosmetics? Hormones?
Drugs? Pressure? Occupation? Stress? |
| Ans. 3 |
throughout the world, parents tells teen to avoid fast
food, chocolates, junk food and greasy and fried food.
While these foods may not be good for overall health,
they don’t cause acne or make it worse.
Some individuals have more ‘oily skin’ then
others, if they will expose to excessive dirt, smoke etc.
their acne aggravates. Sweat does not cause acne, therefore,
it is not necessary to shower instantly after exercise
for fear that sweat will clog pores. On the other hand,
excessive washing can dry and irritate the skin. Most
cosmetic and skin care products are not pore clogging(‘comedogenic’)
of the many available brands, those which are listed as
‘water-based’ or ‘oil-free’ are
generally a better choice.
Some women break out cyclically, but most women don’t.
some oral contraceptive pills may help relieve acne, but
unless a woman has abnormal menstrual periods and excessive
hair growth, it’s unlikely that hormones play much
of a role in causing acne.
Some medications may cause or worsen acne, such as those
containing iodides, bromides, or oral or injected steroids
(either the medically prescribed prednisolone or the steroids
body builders or athletes take)
Most cases of acne, however, are not drug-related.
In some pts, pressure from helmets, chinstraps, collars,
and the like can aggravate acne.
In some jobs, exposure to industrial products like cutting
oils may produce acne.
Some people get so upset by their pimples that they pick
at them and make them last longer, stress, however, do
not play much of a direct role in causing acne. |
| |
|
| Ques. 4 |
Is this leaving marks after healing? |
| Ans. 4 |
Some pts according to their skin type prone for post
inflammatory hyperpigmentation, yes, in such pts they
leave marks which lasts for a year or so. |
| |
|
| Ques. 5 |
I have got allergy over my face but my dermatologist
called it acne or pimples, but my age is 40yrs, how come
it is possible, acne is meant especially for teenagers? |
| Ans. 5 |
Acne is not just a problem for teenagers, it can affect
people from ages 10 through 40. It is not unusual for
women, in particular, to develop acne in their mid-to-late
20’s, even if they have not had breakouts in year
(or ever). These blemishes occur wherever there are many
oil glands, mainly on the face, chest, and back. |

| |
| Ques. 2 |
What are the methods by which these scars are removed
and which is the best? |
| Ans. 2 |
Chemical peeling, lasers, fillers, Microdermabrasion,
scar revision surgery that includes subcision and CROSS
technique. You can’t make out actually which is
the best coz treatment depends on the scar origin, as
for eg. Acne ice pick scars can be better treated by cross
technique followed by chemical peeling. |
| |
| Ques. 3 |
How can I prevent scarring after acne or chicken pox? |
| Ans.
3 |

| RHINOPLASTY |
|
|
| Rhinoplasty is also known as nose corrective
surgery, usually done for tilted or pinched nose. While
the shape of your nose is usually the result of heredity,
the appearance may have been altered in an injury or during
prior surgery. Surgery of the nose improves the appearance
and proportion of your nose, enhancing facial harmony
and self confidence.
Surgery of the nose may also correct impaired breathing
caused by structural abnormalities in the nose.
The shape and size of your nose is genetic. Your nose
is generally fully developed by the age of 16. Rhinoplasty
may be performed if you are unhappy with the natural shape
and size of your nose. It may also be done to restore
the shape of your nose after an injury.
It is very important that you are clear in your mind what
it is that you dislike about the appearance of your nose
and that you are able to explain this to your surgeon.
He or she will then be able to tell you what is possible
with rhinoplasty surgery and what is not. Most people
who have rhinoplasty report that they are happy with the
results of their operation. |
| |
|
| Ques. 1 |
How much time well it takes to accomplish surgery? |
| Ans. 1 |
1. It all depends on the surgeon, patient and the technique
used. Normally it will take around 2.5 to 3 hrs. |
| |
|
| Ques. 2 |
What will be the hospital stay? |
| Ans. 2 |
The surgeon may send you to home very next day. |
| |
|
| Ques. 3 |
What is the right time for surgery? |
| Ans. 3 |
13 years onwards. |
| |
|
| Ques. 4 |
How will I look after surgery? |
| Ans. 4 |
Noticeable bruising, swelling and discoloration of the
eyes, nose and cheeks must be expected for a few days
following this procedure. Bruising and discoloration usually
disappear within the first week after surgery and can
be helped along by sleeping with you head raised instead
of flat. If any discoloration persists for a longer period
it can easily be camouflaged by the application of make-up.
General swelling usually disappears a couple of weeks
after surgery but swelling in the tip area can be experienced
up to nine months following surgery. It must be stated
however that these are generalizations and that the rate
of recovery will obviously differ from patient to patient. |
| |
|
| Ques. 5 |
How soon I will back to my life? |
| Ans. 5 |
As in the case with all surgery it would be advisable
for you to take it easy after a Rhinoplasty procedure.
In fact to avoid making your nose vulnerable in any way
to accidental knocks or bumps, during the early stages
of your recuperation, movement should be kept to a minimum.
The longer you can prevent your nose from being exposed
to direct sunlight the better. When you do eventually
expose it be sure to wear good sun protection of some
sort.
Generally speaking you should be able to resume your normal
lifestyle, including resumption of work (provided the
work isn’t of a strenuous nature) a week to ten
days following surgery. Other activities including exercise
routines can generally be resumed after three weeks. But
always be aware of the procedure you have undergone and
as a result be careful not to expose your nose to any
potential abuse.
The internal healing process associated with Rhinoplasty
is generally not short. In fact it may well be that you
will only fully appreciate the outcome of your surgery
a year after the event. |
| |
|
| Ques. 6 |
What is the risk factor involved? |
| Ans. 6 |
As with everything else in life there are also risks
involved in surgical procedures. No matter how good the
Surgeon performing the Surgery may be, complications can
arise. Therefore before proceeding with any surgery of
any kind please discuss all your concerns with your surgeon
and ask as many questions as you like so that you are
in a position to make an informed decision. |

| BREAST AUGMENTATION SURGERY |
|
|
| |
| Also known as mammoplasty, Patients seeking
breast augmentation have been reported as being usually
younger, healthier, from higher socio-economic status,
and more often married with children than the population
at large. Many of these patients have reported greater
distress about their appearance in a variety of situations,
and have endured teasing about their appearance. Studies
have identified a pattern (shared by many cosmetic surgery
procedures) that suggest women who undergo breast implantation
are slightly more likely to have undergone psychotherapy,
have low levels of self-esteem, and have higher prevalence
of depression, suicide attempts, and mental illness (including
body dysmorphia) as compared to the general population.
Post-operative surveys on mental health and quality of
life issues have reported improvement on a number of dimensions
including: physical health, physical appearance, social
life, self confidence, self esteem, and sexual function.
Longer term follow-up suggests these improvements may
be transitory, with the exception of body esteem related
to sexual attractiveness. Most patients report being satisfied
long-term with their implants even when they have required
re-operation for complications or aesthetic reasons. |
